After bouncing around seasonal gigs in Washington state, South Dakota, Ohio, Kentucky, Michigan, Georgia, Arizona, and Wisconsin, Sunshine landed here at Prairie Moon in 2017. And we’re so glad she did! She lights up the nursery with her moxie and get-it-done attitude. Throughout her adventures in the environmental field she’s studied songbirds, marked timber, conducted prescribed burns, fought invasive species, surveyed for rare plants, and restored the blufflands of La Crosse, Wisconsin. All that experience means Sunshine wears a lot of hats here at Prairie Moon.
Her official title is Production Assistant Manager, but her role changes throughout the growing season. Spring and Fall are spent orchestrating the bare root operation overseeing hundreds of orders per week. During the peak of the growing season, you’ll find her out in the fields keeping the crew and college interns entertained, somehow managing to convince them that weeding is fun! Harvest season is spent collecting and cleaning seed, and during the coldest winter months, Sunshine joins the Sales and Consulting Team to answer all your native plant questions.
In case you were wondering (and we know you were!) yes, Sunshine Love is her given maiden name. If she had a nickel for every time she has been asked about the origins of her name, she’d be rich! So go ahead and ask her, but be prepared to pay that nickel. After hours you’ll probably find her tending to her vegetable garden or expanding her off-the-grid homestead with her husband.
