Bushy Cinquefoil is a low growing member of the Potentilla genus. Its full botanical name is Potentilla paradoxa, however, this species is also known as Potentilla supina. Going by its common name, it can be referred to as either Bushy Cinquefoil or Sand Cinquefoil. Both common names are regarding the plant’s growing patterns. Expanding in a bushy stature, the plant grows outwards more than upwards; it does not get much taller than 1 to 2 feet. The leaves of the Bushy Cinquefoil are arranged in an alternate pattern and are oriented on stems branching from the main stocks. Potentilla paradoxa can be found in wetter soils and prefers to grow in sandier areas. It can commonly be found growing on riverbanks and sandy lakeshores, which is why many people refer to this species as the Sand Cinquefoil. This species is a biennial or annual, it completes is life cycle during 1 to 2 seasons but will re-seed.
