NEW in potted trays! Packera aurea (Golden Ragwort) has spreading fibrous roots that produce rhizomes. In favorable growing conditions, plant colonies can often form. Golden Ragwort prefers full sun to light shade, and wet to medium soil moisture. Golden Ragwort can tolerate low levels of seasonal flooding. Typical habitats include woodland borders, moist shady savannas, shorelines, and deciduous woodlands. Compared to many other Ragwort species, Golden Ragwort is more shade tolerant. It can make a good native ground cover in the right situation as it spreads semi-aggressively by rhizomes.

Golden Ragwort blooms in late spring for about 3 weeks. Both the nectar and pollen attract small bees, including little carpenter bees, cuckoo bees, and Halictid bees. The foliage is toxic to most mammalian herbivores, but sheep have been known to consume the plant.

This species is also known as Senecio aureus.
