Annual Rye is a good cover crop for any soil that needs extra erosion control; but, be warned, Annual Rye Grass may be allelopathic which can inhibit germination or slow the growth of other species around it. Despite the name, Annual Rye can be a biennial or short-lived perennial. It is a cool-season grass; actively growing during the spring and fall when soil temperatures are cool. Use 30-45 lbs per acre if seeding with native seed May - mid-July, or 60-90 lbs per acre if seeding the cover crop alone.
